Remote Testing Option

Metro provide Remote testing in select states. This option allows the tester to take exams from home or office. The requirements are more strict than in person testing so make sure to read the rules and technical requirement before scheduling an exam.

Here is a sample of the testing rules for remote testing:

What Is It and How Does It Work?

Remotely Proctored exams is a new service to complete your testing needs from the convenience of a location of your choosing, usually your home computer or an employer's computer. In brief summary, you will:

  1. Select and pay for the exam you want to take (on this Metro Institute website)
  2. Schedule a testing session with Metro Institute's technology partner Talview
  3. Perform a "pre-flight checklist" (e.g., test your webcam and microphone)
  4. You will receive an invitation email with appointment details and a link to your exam session.
  5. Log into the testing environment in the presence of a "live proctor" who supervises the testing session *

*The proctor can see both you and your computer screen and is available for questions/assistance via real-time chat.

Technical Requirements

Remotely proctored testing has unique requirements and is designed for the candidate with strong computer skills and experience:

  • A late model Windows or Macintosh laptop or desktop - fully updated, with no scheduled operating system updates to be completed. Macintosh users must use Chrome or Firefox; Safari is not supported at this time. Safari is not supported at this time.
  • Supported browsers are the latest versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge. Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, etc. are not supported.
  • A reliable Internet connection with a minimum speed of 1 mbps.
  • A webcam, microphone and external speakers (no headphones or earbuds!). Most webcams come with a microphone. Most laptops have a built-in microphone and webcam.
  • Your webcam must be sufficiently "mobile" to provide a complete 360-degree environment check. For example, if you have a laptop, you will be asked to pickup your laptop and scan the room; if you have a desktop webcam, you can pick up the webcam only and scan the room. IMPORTANT: A PC with no webcam will not qualify for a remotely proctored examination!
